Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better on the mascara front after recently discovering the Loreal False Lash Telescopic Waterproof Mascara (FLTWM) , which I deemed as holy grail status in my review here, along comes another one that blows everything out of the water. It was truly love at first sight. Say hello to the Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara (BTSWM).
And by love at first sight, I don’t mean just a mere, superficial lust for the soft, aqua blue, water-drops embossed packaging, nor with reference to it’s erm…rather provocative name. I mean I fell completely head over heals for the formula from the very first time I held the wand up to my lashes. Don’t let the boisterous wand stand in the way of you and a good time either. Whilst it is rather on the macho side (and I thought the Covergirl Lash Blast wand was a beast), the fibrous bristles will coat every single one of your lashes down to the short, stumpy ones. Top tip: I find that if I tilt the wand vertically, I can get to each and everyone of my piddly little lashes along my bottom lash line, inner corner right the way through to the outer corner.
Now admittedly I’ve never actually gotten around to trying the much hyped original formula of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. Quite frankly, it isn’t waterproof. My lashes don’t stand a chance with any formula that isn’t waterproof (believe me, I’ve tried). So when Too Faced announced that they were going to release a waterproof version of their best selling formula, let’s just say I have been stalking their Instagram pages eagerly awaiting for it’s arrival.
If I am totally honest, I didn’t think this mascara was going to work for me. I’ve tried many higher end/premium waterproof mascaras only to be let down by their inability to maintain the curl and I find it hard to justify spending the money on high end formulas when I know there are drugstore brands that produce kick ass waterproof mascaras at a fraction of the price. FRACTION. And the way I wear them (3-4 coats, EVERYDAY) I tend to go through a tube of mascara pretty quickly. So you can imagine my surprise, especially when I didn’t have to wait around for a couple of weeks for the formula to ‘dry’ down as I usually do (even with the best mascaras), when I was bowled over the very first time I used it.
One coat of the Too Faced BTSWM is the same as applying 2-3 coats of the Loreal FLTWM. Enough said really. If you want natural looking lashes for everyday wear then you’ll most likely be disappointed. If big, fat, full, heck almost fake strip lash like lashes is what you’re after then the Too Faced BTSWM will serve you well and then some. If you’re always in a rush then again, the Too Faced BTSWM is perfect for defining your eyes in just one quick swipe (I’m greedy, I go for two). One and done.
And if you want to know whether this is truly waterproof? I decided to give this mascara a test run on my recent holiday to Fiji, and believe me, there was plenty of water action going down from paddle boarding (semi-successfully) to snorkelling to pool bombing (yes I’m still a 12 year old tomboy) – not one smudge or smear in sight! I had doubted this mascara so much so that I actually even brought along the Loreal FLTWM as backup just incase the Too Faced BTSWM failed me but there was no need for such negative thinking.
Whilst I can get on board with the huge wand, if I had to change one thing about the Too Faced BTSWM, it would be to make it a smidgen smaller. This will reduce the amount of times I’ve hit my lid on the outer corner when coating the outer-most lashes. Aside from that, this mascara is a thing of perfection. Go buy it. The hype is real. Better than sex? Well that’s debatable…

Thank you for sharing a review. I really like it and now I definitely buy this mascara.
Nice blog..!!
Thank you. Hope you like the mascara. Some people do find it can be clumpy, if so, use a lash comb to brush through once applied.
