It’s that time of month again (don’t worry ladies, not that) where concierge tells me that I have a package like music to my ears (although there always seems to be a package nowadays, really need to get my frivolous online spending in check). This month’s Birchbox is somewhat a tad heavier than usual. Actually it’s quite a bit heavier and you’ll find out why further on in this post. Without further ado, heres this months line-up:
One Love Organics Skin Savior Waterless Beauty Balm
Another one of those balms that’s a “be all and do all” type of product which can be used as a makeup remover, cleanser and moisturiser (say what?). Made with “pure, cold-pressed plant oils, rich mango butter, and three super-critical extract”, the Skin Saviour Waterless Beauty Balm from One Love Organics can breakdown makeup without stripping the skin of moisture. This stuff can also be used to tame flyaway hair and sounds like one of those products that comes in very handy when you’re on the go (although I’m not sure how much more I can fit in my handbag without out the bottom falling through).
TommyGuns Pomegranate & Orange Flower Shampoo
This was the thing that was weighing my beauty box down and made it a lot heavier than usual. The 250ml TommyGuns Pomegranate& Orange Flower Shampoo claims to cleanse and refresh “both your hair & spirits”. Apparently the pomegranate helps to cleanse whilst also protect the hair from the harsh environment whilst the orange supposedly soothes and enhances the hairs natural shine. Bold claims but I’m happy to give it a go since I haven’t been impressed with the last shampoo I bought from my recent French Pharmacy Haul (read it here) .
The Balm Cosmetics How ‘Bout Them Apples? Cheek& Lip Cream
The Balm is one those brands that you hear a lot about but never gotten round to trying. I guess that’s the beauty of beauty boxes like Birchbox. You can finally get round to trying new products and brands without a big financial commitment especially if it doesn’t work out. How ‘Bout Them Apples? is a cream 2 in 1 product that is a blush and a lip tint. I have the shade “Pie” which is a perfect mix of red, pink and coral. It’s a very smooth and creamy formulation and blends pretty easily on both the lips and the cheeks. This is definitely one for the handbag whilst on the go. I love products that can multi-task so you don’t end up bringing your whole makeup bag with you (and trust me, mine is huuuge).
Color Club Gala Gems Nail Polish in “Breakfast At…”
A couple of weeks before I was due this month’s Birchbox, I received an email from them to say that we could choose which colour of four we wanted from the Color Club Gala’s Gems Nail Polish Collection. The range is the result of a collaboration between Color Club and Spanish blogger, stylist and DJ, Gala Gonzalez (hence the name). The colours available were “Breakfast At…” soft, a turquoise-esk shade, “Heirloom Pearls”, an opulent off-white shade, “Gold Struck” a pale, soft gold and Aquamarine Azulino, a baby blue shade. All the shades have a pretty, pearlised finish. I umm’ed and I ahh’ed before I finally settled for the “Breakfast At…” shade, which is reminiscent of the colour of the Tiffany&co. packaging (and the inspiration for the name). I’m not disappointed as it’s such a gorgeous shade, although having seen pictures of Gala Gonzalez with Heirloom Pearls painted on her nails (here), I half wished I had chosen that shade instead (I would imagine it looks amazeballs with a nice, golden tan). No reason why I shouldn’t put that on my shopping list though ;).
Lord & Berry Couture Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil
A girl can never have enough kohl liners I think and I seem to go through these the fastest of any of my makeup products. Half the time I have trouble when it comes to sharpening them and at least a third of the product is actually wasted because I’ve sharpened it one turn too many and the actual pencil nib falls off (making a smudgy mess on the floor). The Couture Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil from Lord& Berry is a great handbag item, not just for the dinky size, as it’s a quick way to amp up your makeup if you’re going straight out after work. Just smudge it into the outer third of your top and bottom lash line and you’re good to go.
ProperCorn Fiery Worcester Sauce& Sun-Dried Tomato
I am a popcorn fiend. I’ve been known to eat the large size of popcorn (to the very last corn) you get at the cinema and I’m not one for sharing. I’m a mixed sweet and salty kind of girl so it’s a shame that I didn’t get that flavour and I got the above instead. Think I’ll pass that one to my boyfriend instead. You can pick the Propercorn Fiery Worcester Sauce& Sun-Dried Tomato from Waitrose and I’ve just spotted that they do a Sweet Coconut and Vanilla flavour. Now that I must try.
That concludes this month’s beauty box. I will be doing another Birchbox Hits and Misses soon once I’ve put these products to the test so you’ll hear about what products I would consider buying the full size of and what products I’ll say “Thanks, but no thanks” and promptly tossed aside.
