I’m not gonna lie…wearing colour on the eyes absolutely terrifies me! Actually, and I’ve mentioned this before, I have to be in the right mood to wear even a red lip. I am a neutral girl through and through and the most adventurous I would go with the eyes is maybe a purple? or even a peachy coral ? But sometimes, especially when I see fashion and beauty editorials or instagrammers with gorgeous, bold colours and bright, jewel tones whether that be lips or eyes, it makes me want to step outside of my comfort zone and experiment with bolder, brighter colours…and so I have in this tutorial.
I find the easiest way to do this, if you want to add a bit of colour on the eyes is just to add a touch of colour onto the bottom lash line or even on the lids. The trick is to ‘ground’ the look with neutral tones like browns, tans and beiges and this will help to make the look wearable (and stop people taking a double take when you’re out and about). The other trick is to keep it toned down in other areas of your makeup so if you’re going for dark and smokey eyes, or bright and shimmery eyes, then I would just keep it nude or neutral on the lips and vice versa. There are only really a few exceptions to this rule and they are usually supermodels graced on the cover of Vogue or other magazines of this ilk.
Anyway, in this tutorial I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Tamanna palette and I’ve gone for metallic, warm tones such as peach and reds on the lids but grounded it with neutral tones in the crease and the outer V. Then on the bottom lash line, I went for a vibrant, metallic aqua blue but again I grounded it with darker, earthy tones on the outer third of the lash line.
