Face Du Jour no.2

So last night I was watching Pixiwoo’s latest tutorial and it was Sam Chapman recreating US actress Kat Denning’s typical makeup look. It inspired me to create something similar; a warm neutral eye look paired with a strong red lip. Here are the products I used to create the look.

Base

I used the Benefit’s The POREfessional on and around the eyes and along my T-Zone to smooth over fine lines and prevent any shiny/oily incidences. I used Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in the shade no.6 and applied it with a Real Techniques Buffing Brush (from their Core Collection). I got a sample of this and a few others as I’m currently searching for a medium to full coverage foundation (long wearing and non spf) for my kit.  This foundation is beautiful and gives off a natural, flawless finish. Not too dewy neither too matte.

Brows

For brows I used Sleek’s Eyebrow Stylist in the shade Dark. Before I even knew that Sleek had this in their makeup range, it was the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil that was on my “need to buy” list. The only reason I hadn’t gotten around to purchasing it was because it had been sold out for weeks and was only available on backorder at Space NK. It was only by chance that I spotted an email from Sleek sitting in my inbox that I discovered their waxy eyebrow offering. On the one end you have an slanted, angled, waxy pencil and on the other you have a spoolie to brush through the brows.  The pencil is very pigmented, draws on smooth and gives a natural, matte finish. I am still curious as to how the Hourglass pencil compares though so have not crossed that off my list as yet. I then set my brows in place with Collection Colour Lash Mascara in Clear (standard).

Eyes

I used the shade Tease from my Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette on the lid, which is a taupey brown shade. I then blended into the crease Mac’s Cork eyeshadow (with a Mac 217 brush) which is a more of a warm, medium brown. Under the eyes along the lash line, I used Mac Expresso which is a deeper shade of brown. I then used the shade Booty Call, also from the Naked 2 palette, just under the brow bone and in the tearduct. Then I lined my upper lash line and the outside quarter of the lower lash line with Blackout, an intense black shade, again from the Naked 2 Palette. I then curled my lashes with my Shu Uemera Eyelash Curlers (of course) and went onto coat them with two layers of Maybelline’s The Falsies Waterproof Mascara. Finally, I lined my top waterline (love, love, love this trick) with Maybelline Eye Studio Master Kohl Liner in Ultra Black.

Concealer

I used Clinque’s Airbrush Concealer in the shade no. 3 Light under my eyes to conceal any darkness and used the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade Ginger around the nose and on my chin to conceal the redness and scars which the foundation didn’t cover.

Bronzer

I applied Soleil Tan De Chanel (read my review here) to my “contour” zones i.e. under the cheekbones, along the temples, across the forehead along the hairline and anything left on the brush along my jawline. I find this product quite natural and very effective in adding warmth to the face, more so than creating a strong, chiselled look. It’s quite subtle (although you can build it up) so you can’t really see it in the photos especially with the indoor lighting.

Blush

I applied the Nars blush in the shade Sin to the apples of my cheek, blending upwards and outwards in small circular motions with my Real Techniques Blush Brush

Powder

I powdered my T-Zone and anywhere where I’ve applied concealer with Rimmel’s Stay Matte Pressed Powder in the shade 1 Transparent with my Real Techniques Powder Brush (for the T Zone) and Setting Brush (under the eyes).

Lips

I strayed from my usual pinky, neutral lips and went bold with Revlon’s Colourburst Laquer Balm in Provocateur, a vibrant red shade. The formulation is smooth and creamy and feels very much like a balm, hence the name, and the finish is opaque and glossy. There’s a slight minty scent to the product which isn’t a bad thing (good if you’ve been eating cheese and onion crisps?).

I think that’s all. I always suprise myself with the number of products I use (as in I use far more than I think I do) and when I think I’ve finished listing the products, I always find that Ive missed something off. Have you been inspired by or recreated any of Pixiwoo’s tutorials?
