Face Du Jour

I thought it be a good idea to start up a regular post to just talk about the makeup that I’m wearing on any particular day. It’s not a makeup routine because at the moment I find myself changing up products on a day to day basis especially as I’ve made a few (one too many) purchases quite recently. So without further ado, here is the list of products that I am wearing on my face today.

Primer

I don’t usually wear a primer because 1) I usually forget with it being 2) that extra one step to my routine. However, I have vowed to start using my Birchbox goodies (another thing I usually forget about) and Benefit’s The POREfessional happens to be one of them. I don’t have an issue with my pores but just want my makeup to last that bit longer. I apply it under the eyes, over the eyelids and on my T-Zone as these are the areas which either gets oily during the day or tends to crease. I like that it provides a smooth, even surface for your makeup to sit on. I can’t say I’ve noticed a massive difference in the few times I have used it, but I do think my under eye area stays intact for slightly longer than usual.

Foundation

As you may or may not know, during my recent trip to Chanel in Covent Garden, I picked up the Vitalumiere Aqua foundation in 40 BeigeI seriously don’t waste no time in trying out my new products, I’m like a child at Christmas. This is a thin and watery formulation which needs a good shake before application. The coverage is really light, light enough to still see my freckles but still manages to even out my skin tone to provide a nice, natural looking, even base. I apply this with the Real Techniques Stippling Brush (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it).

Brows

This hasn’t changed from my current makeup routine. I use Mac Expresso eyeshadow with an angled brush (can’t remember the brand but I think I got it from Superdrug) to fill in my brows and then go over it with the Collection Colour Lash Mascara in Clear to set it in place.

Eyes

Today I was feeling a bit lazy so opted for one shade across the lid, just blended around the edges with my Mac 217 brush to ensure no harsh edges. I picked up Mac Bronze which is one of their “Frost” finishes. It’s more of a warm, medium brown and quite satin-y in texture. I then lined my eyes with Bourjois Liner Feutre which I got free when I purchased the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum a couple of weeks ago. This was to replace the Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner which failed on me twice (that’s another long story). It comes with a long felt tip like nib and stays put all day. So far so good. Then I curl my lashes with my Shu Uemura eyelash curlers and load up my lashes with Max Factor False Lash Effect Waterproof MacaraThis was one of the mascaras I bought in search for the perfect mascara (read the blog here). It’s not my favourite mascara but since I’ve got it, I might as well use it. Following this, I line my top waterline with Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal Eyeliner to create the illusion of thicker lashes. I then popped the lightest colour from the Rimmel 5 pan eyeshadow palette in “Brixton Brown” into the inner corners of my eyes. I bought this because I loved the range of colours in the pan but I am quite disappointed with the colour payoff and the consistency of the shadows. Well at least I have use for one of the shades so it’s not a complete waste of money.

Concealer

I used Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in True Ivory under the eyes. This instantly brightens up the area, making me look healthy and wide awake. Then I use the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade “Ginger” on any blemishes and around the nose where I tend to get redness.

Bronzer

Along with my Chanel Vitalumiere purchase, I bought the Soleil Tan De Chanel. I fell in love with it during my Ultimate Makeup Lession with Chanel last week (to read the blog, click here). I wasn’t too sure how to apply  it exactly so kind of went in with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and applied it as I would with my powdered bronzers. I found it difficult to get a chiselled cheekbone but I think that could be down to the brush I was using but it does a great job in warming up the face, giving a lovely golden glow.

Blush

Here I used another one of my recent purchases; the Illamasqua Cream Blusher in Seduce. It’s described as a “Warm Rose Pink. Dewy Finish” and is exactly that although it looks terrifying in the pan. It’s extremely pigmented and a little goes a long, long way. I apply this with a (very) light hand, simultaneously tapping whilst blending out the colour on the apples of my cheeks.

Highlight

No surprises here, I used Benefit’s Watt’s Up highlighter accross the tops of my cheekbones, patting it in lightly with my fingers.

Powder

Again, a staple in my makeup bag because it’s cheap and does the job. It’s the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powderwhich I apply with the Real Techniques Powder brushon my T-Zone and anywhere where I’ve applied concealer just to set it and keep it in place.

Lips

After applying Ren Vita Mineral Lip Balm over my lips to moisturise and protect them from the cold, I used Tanya Burr’s lipgloss in the colour “Aurora” which is a mid-toned pink suitable for everyday wear. I am impressed with this product as it is really pigmented meaning you get good colour payoff without needing to wear it over a lipstick. It’s also a non-sticky formulation and it feels moisturising on your lips so makes it comfortable to wear all day.

That’s it I think. I am quite shocked to count more than 20 products! If you had asked me beforehand, I would have probably said that I used a few…. 10 at the most? What makeup products and how many of them are you wearing at the moment?
