When I first saw Jaclyn Hill introduce her latest collaboration Champagne Collection Face Palette , the with Becca, I didn’t think I would end up purchasing it. Simply because I’m more of a lipstick and eyeshadow kind of girl (although I barely wear any eyeshadow on a day to day basis). But FOMO kicked in especially when I learned that it was going to be limited edition (funny how that always gets the better of you). To be honest, from what I had seen from the whole palette, the blush I was most excited about was the shade ‘Amaretto’, a warm, nude blush that looked the perfect addition to my everyday makeup roster.
Now being in Australia, I had to wait a little bit longer until it finally made it’s way down under. The anticipation was REAL! By this time, the eyeshadow palette fiasco was long forgotten (just as well as I didn’t think it was particularly unique but I would have bought it for the mere fact that it was also limited edition. Damn you FOMO). When it finally arrived, I couldn’t even use it as, due to blog etiquette, I wanted to take photos for this post. Fast forward a week later, I finally had the pleasure of dipping my blush brush (and my fingers for the swatches) into powders.
The Champagne Collection Face Palette consists of 3 blushes and 2 highlighters and is housed in a gloriously, sturdy and luxurious white and gold casing with the most generous mirror I have ever seen in any palette, and top quality too! Of the 5 powders, only one has been seen before and that of course is Jaclyn’s first product collaboration with Becca, the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed (a.k.a. highlighter) in Champagne Pop.
The Blushes
Let’s start with the blushes. We have Rose Spritz, a luminous blush, and Amaretto and Pamplemousse, both mineral blushes. Rose Spritz is a warm, pink coral infused with fine, gold shimmer which gives that ‘luminous’, soft metallic finish. I don’t usually opt for shimmery blushes and any shimmer usually comes from my highlight perched on the tops of my cheek bones but I have to say I was surprised that I liked the way it looked especially since I’m sporting a bit of a tan at the moment. For those who like their glow then this blush won’t disappoint.
Amaretto is a warm, muted rosy tan scattered with fine golden shimmer (although doesn’t really translate on the face) and this was the blush I was most excited for. I’m a fan of neutral blushes as they are versatile and don’t compete with the rest of your makeup. In reality, this shade is definitely more tanned than I thought it would be and on certain skin tones it could pass as a bronzer. I’m not hating on it though as I can see it being used almost as a two in one bronzer and blush duo when you’re running short on time. It somewhat reminds me to Benefit’s Blush in Dallas but more bronze and slightly less pink. It’s mineral finish which Becca describes as a matte but it’s more of a demi-matte/semi-satin.The formula is very soft, almost creamy to the touch, although not quite as creamy as the luminous Rose Spritz. This is also another great colour with a tan as I feel that it almost enhances the warmth of my skin when applied.
Pamplemousse is the darkest shade of the three blushes and is a very warm, vibrant pop of pink. Initially from the swatches I had seen, I thought this shade and Rose Spritz were very similar but just with a different finish but they’re not at all. This Is definitely more deeper and more vivid and a little goes a lonnnng way. Whilst it can look intimidating in the pan, it provides such a warm, rosy flush to the cheeks with a minimal amount of product. This shade will look especially great on darker skin tones.
The Highlighers
Moving onto the highlighters. We have the aforementioned Champagne Pop and it’s sister, Prosecco Pop. For the benefit of those who are not familiar with Champagne Pop, this is one of the most beautiful highlighters I have ever tried. I go back and forth between this and Becca’s Opal, another equally divine shade. Champagne Pop is pretty much aptly named. It’s a stunning warm, metallic, peachy champagne in the most dreamy, creamy, pigmented formula. It was created to suit many skin tones and I think it’s such a great fit with my medium, skin with yellow undertones. It can be worn sheerly with the lightest touch of the brush or built up to provide the most intense, traffic stopping glow.
Prosecco Pop is more of a mid-tone warm, metallic yellow gold. I was quite nervous, for want of a better word, about this shade as I thought it might just be a tad too gold for my liking. However, and maybe it’s down to my skin currently being a couple shades deeper than the norm, it actually looked rather good (if I do say so myself). Just as sheeny and shiny as it’s older sister, Champagne Pop, but just more of a true gold. The true test will be to see how it looks on my skin when I am not so tanned but in all honesty, I think it will still work pretty well. As it’s darker and a lot more warmer, this is more suited to medium to dark skin tones. I reckon fairer skin tones may struggle to pull it off.
Overall, I think this is a great palette particularly if you are a blush and/or highlighter fiend or a Jaclyn Hill fan (I’m probably more of the latter). It’s sleek and super glam packaging makes it the perfect travel companion. Each shade is different from one another and can be used as eyeshadow too ( Champagne Pop is stunning on the eyes) making this palette extremely versatile. My only peeve with this palette is the fact that the UK and Australia (and possibly other countries) gets charged so much more for the palette. I paid 25% more for the palette than I would if I had purchased it in the USA which makes it a rather pricey purchase. But this is the case for many other brands and products and clearly I didn’t dwell on it too much as I decided to buy it anyway. I guess when you think about it, you’re getting 3 blushes (albeit much smaller than the individual blushes) and 2 highlighters which is a lot especially if you take into consideration the price of Becca’s products.
