Vichy Dermablend Corrective Foundation Review

DERMABLEND Corrective Foundation MAKEUP - FLUID review by Facemadeup.com

I was recently asked whether I would like to try the Vichy Dermablend Corrective Foundation. I’ve seen via the likes of Lisa Eldridge and Tanya Burr just what the foundation can do and to be honest, it’s not a product I would have even thought about ever using as quite frankly, and not to toot my own horn, but I think I have rather good skin. On most days. And this isn’t me bragging, but me just being real and honest in whether and why I would want to use or try any product. For those who have no idea, Vichy Dermablend is well known for producing superior, camouflage make-up for those with problematic skin. Or at least that’s what I thought. But you don’t have to have problematic skin to use their products. They claim to cover and conceal minor to severe skin flaws, from redness and dark circles to vitiligo and acne. I can certainly get on board with redness and dark circles so I was intrigued to see what it could do for me. I’ve been testing it out for a good few weeks now and here are my thoughts.

Firstly, I was quite surprised by the colour range. It’s quite small, to be frank, with just five shades so doesn’t run particularly dark or caters to those with really fair skin.  I had trouble finding what the right shade was for me, not surprisingly with there only being five in the collection.   But the other gripe I had was that the undertone of the foundation runs pink. Now this isn’t unusual for foundations in the UK  but it’s ok when product ranges also have a selection of yellow undertones to cater for those with a warmer skin tone. So not only am I in-between shades, I’m in-between the wrong shades. So not off to a great start.

I opted to mix the shades 25 Nude and 35 Sand together to achieve the closest match to my skin tone. Yes it’s definitely on the pink side of things so I make sure to blend well down my neck. It’s a creamy, thick-ish formula that blends well so is rather easy to work with and you notice instantaneously that the pigment is insane. I’m not a full coverage foundation kind of girl but if I were then this foundation is a god send. A little goes a long, long, long, long way . You have been warned.

I found that with this foundation there wasn’t a need for concealer. I normally prefer a light coverage all over which obviously doesn’t hide things like the redness around my nose, random blemishes and some of the hyper pigmentation marks scattered around the mouth and chin area. Lovely. So I typically go in with a concealer to cover up these areas before setting them in place with a powder. With the Vichy Dermablend, I don’t feel a need for the concealer. If I do, I just go in with a bit more of the Dermablend and voila, now you see it, now you don’t.

I do, however, like to go in with a concealer for my under eye area a.k.a my bags, only because I prefer a shade lighter than the rest of my face to really awaken and brighten up the face. But if you like to have the same shade all round then I don’t think there’s any reason not to use this under the eyes. I would just, again, go in with very little product and build up from there just to avoid the risk of product overload and therefore crease galore. Nobody want’s a creasy face. The foundation sets to a satin finish but it does get ‘dewy’, (or lets get real and call it shinyafter 3-4 hours so be prepared to touch up. I have normal to combination skin so those with oily skin might need to touch up even more frequently unless of course you’re going for that look (you do you).

After testing the foundation for a few weeks, I found that it actually lasts pretty much the whole day each time. For me, that’s from around 7am to 7pm, so a good solid 12 hours. If you’re looking for a long lasting foundation then this one is definitely worth a look in.  Another thing worth noting is that it has an SPF of 25, great for everyday sun protection but probably not one if flash photography is going to be involved.

So overall, this foundation packs a punch when it comes to coverage and although this isn’t a natural looking foundation ( I can see the product but then again I’m much used to wearing lighter foundations in terms of coverage), it sets to a nice, satin finish that is smooth and flawless, and pretty much airbrushed looking. A little goes a long way and it lasts for hours if you’re prepared to touch up a couple times throughout the day. This foundation is best suited to Caucasian skin tones as it does run pink but I think mixing the shades like I did, those with warmer skin tones might just about get away with it. It’s not the best but make sure to blend well and blend down the neck. If you’re really fair though or rather dark skinned, you may struggle to find your shade. I’d recommend that if you want to try this for the coverage then perhaps mix it in with one of your own foundations that perhaps slightly too light or too dark for you.

Have you tried the Vichy Dermablend?
