Following on from my review and swatches of the Gerard Cosmetics lip glosses, today I’ll be reviewing the lipsticks with swatches of course. The golden bullet babies are beautiful. The finish is matte, but not super matte. Upon application, they aren’t as creamy as the likes of the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution or the YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats, yet they wear quite comfortably on the lips and don’t dry out as the day wears on. However, they do feel creamy when you purse your lips and rub them together. They have a great amount of pigment and don’t drag on the lips and they wear for a good few hours too. They, like the lip glosses, are available on the Beautybay.com (for £11.50) and also on Cocktailcosmetics.com (for £12.50), but as I mentioned in the lip gloss post, I’d keep my eye out on the promo codes on Instagram and Youtube as you can get great offers such as two lipsticks for $20 which is essentially half price. Don’t say I didn’t tell you.
Without further ado, here are my lipstick swatches of the 4 shades I own.
Berry Smoothie is like the darker, older sister to Rodeo Drive. It’s what I thought it’s what Rodeo Drive would be (and vice versa) and it has the same rose petal tone but just a hint more of a dark, mauve-y plum. This is the shade that just makes you look polished and grown up but not overly done.
Butter Cup is as far out of my comfort zone as I would go. It’s not the usual colour I would go for but I got sucked in big time by none other than Jaclyn Hill. This is one of her product collaborations with Gerard Cosmetics. It is a very pretty shade, a cool tone, baby, bubble gum pink. To be honest with you, I can’t wear this shade alone on the lips, it needs to go over a darker lip liner whether it be a neautral ‘nude’ liner or more of a rose, pink liner, or with a darker shade of pink gloss on top.
Rodeo Drive is my favourite lipstick from the range. When I look at the shade, a soft, delicate rose petal springs to mid. It’s beautiful and would work with lots of skin tones It’s a mid tone, warm pink that feels very romantic and for me it’s the perfect MLBB shade and I could wear this lipstick every day of the week. It’s now my go to and one I reach for the most when I don’t want to think too much about my makeup.
Nude is a light to mid- tone fleshy, peach shade and for me, not a nude at all. This is probably my least favourite shade as I feel that it doesn’t do much for my complexion. It might perhaps work better with a gloss on top but for me, this is a shade that I think would look better on lighter skin tones.
1995 is a lot more brown than I thought it would be. I was very aware that Jaclyn Hill took inspiration from the 90’s to create this colour with Gerard Cosmetics, hence the name, and is very much that similar colour that Kylie Kardashian has made famous. For me, I like to wear this with more of a pink liner, Mac Soar would be perfect to make it less 90’s brown and more of a wearable, rosy brown, but of course if you’re going for a 90’s look then this lip colour would be perfect.
I’ve got my eye on French Toast which is one of the new shade additions to the range and which looks more of a terracotta take on 1995. Anyone tried it yet?
